This past March I traveled with Dave Petersen to Ganta Liberia in West Africa.
The purpose of our trip was to check the ongoing Deaf school building project. We wanted to encourage the students, teachers, and pastors so faithfully involved in this project.
In the Spring of 2025, a group went to visit the deaf school to put on a dental clinic. The dental clinic group consisted of Kemp Laidley, Herb Cavenaugh, and Dr. Caren Abraham, a missionary dentist currently serving in Kenya. Dr. Caren was able to see most of the deaf students and identify any problems. She did some dental education and distributed toothbrushes and toothpaste to the deaf school students. The team was also able to go into the surrounding community and perform dental screenings and education. Dr. Caren and the team went to a local prison and performed dental cleanings and education for the inmates.

The continuing effort to provide learning opportunities for these deaf students prompted a sewing program to be developed for the deaf school. The school has purchased a number of sewing machines, and a weaving machine. A group traveled to Liberia to focus on sewing education and helping the instructors and students. They focused on improving overall skills. Fabric was purchased and the sewing group was able to leave the instructors with invaluable lessons for improving sewing skills and a number of patterns for bags and placemats among other items. With the new weaving machine, several of the students have created beautiful woven fabric that the seamstresses have created things with including bags, placemats, dresses and shirts. Several students have shown great talent for sewing and weaving. They have begun to produce beautiful bags, placemats, and fabric for clothing and other items.
